406 ballots cast in first two byelection advance polls

Current voter turnout at less than 2%

Spruce Grove is off to somewhat of a slow start when it comes to voter turnout in its municipal byelection.

245 people voted on Tuesday, between 6 and 9 pm, while another 161 voted between 6 and 11 am on Wednesday.

It's not exact, but the city's best estimate when it comes to number of eligible voters is 24,094.

With 406 ballots cast, current voter turnout is 1.68%.

The final advance poll is coming up next Wednesday on July 3 at Pioneer Centre between 11 am and 3 pm.

Byelection Day on July 10 will see polls open between 10 and 8, at the Alliance Church, Holiday Inn Express, and Horizon Stage.

It's the first municipal byelection held in Spruce Grove since 1990, when Ken Scott won a seat as an alderman.

Scott would go onto serve 17 years on council, including six as mayor, before retiring in 2007.
