The Spruce Grove City Centre Business Association hosts the Family Day celebration on Feb. 18.
If you’re looking for local Family Day plans, the Spruce Grove City Centre Business Association has you covered.
The third-annual Winter Fest will be held Feb. 18 and is intended to provide a fun way to encourage people to check out downtown Spruce Grove. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Organizer Jamie-Lynn Pitts says planning this event has been a great experience for everyone involved.
“It’s really great to see the community come together and say ‘we believe in City Centre and believe in what’s transpiring here. And that we [they] want to see it come to fruition and be part of the fun’,” she said.
Columbus Park will be home to a free pancake breakfast for the first 400 people who arrive, horse & wagon rides, a hardest slapshot competition, an ugly toque contest, and many more options.
Despite the array of activities, Pitts says the 3-on-3 street hockey tournament is the main draw.
“With any event, you always want it anchored by a certain activity that drives the foot traffic to your event and that’s where the street hockey came in,” she said.
Pitts says she’s happy with the community spirit of sponsors and participants. Sponsors are covering the cost of the pancake breakfast as well as other free items such as hot chocolate and coffee. The Parkland Food Bank is also expected to donate a signed Connor McDavid jersey to be given away in a charity raffle.
Around 2000 people from all over the tri-region are expected to attend the festivities.
